Helen McDermott is Director of Global Forecasting at Tourism Economics, an Oxford Economics company, with over 15 years of experience in economic forecasting, modelling, and consultancy. She leads the firm’s global tourism forecasting activities, helping governments, tourism organizations, and private-sector clients understand travel demand and make informed strategic decisions. Helen oversees Tourism Economics’ flagship forecasting services, including the Global Travel Service (GTS) and Global City Travel (GCT) programmes, which provide forecasts of bilateral travel flows across 185 countries and more than 340 cities and regions worldwide. She also leads the production of quarterly hotel industry forecasts across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia in partnership with CoStar/STR. A specialist in scenario modelling and strategic forecasting, Helen advises clients on the impacts of economic shifts, policy changes, major events, and external shocks. She also leads economic impact and Tourism Satellite Account (TSA) analyses and has played a key role in the annual Economic Impact Research produced by Tourism Economics on behalf of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC). Helen holds a degree in Economics from Ulster University.
