Measure the Economic Impact of Your Events

The Event Impact Calculator (EIC) is the industry-standard tool for quantifying the economic impact of meetings, sports, festivals, and local events.

Every Event Has Value. EIC Helps Quantify It.

Events generate significant economic impacts, benefiting the broader community beyond the venue walls. EIC helps destination organizations translate that activity into the measures stakeholders need most: visitor spending, employment, income, and tax revenue.

Backed by rigorous economic modeling techniques and a rich array of credible data sources, destinations can evaluate opportunities, report results, and communicate the value of events with greater confidence.

The Industry Standard for Event Impact Measurement

The Event Impact Calculator is Destinations International’s official tool for measuring the economic impact of meetings, sports, festivals, and local events. Built and maintained by Tourism Economics in partnership with DI, EIC gives destination organizations a localized model for estimating broad measures of impacts before and after an event..

Key capabilities include:

  • Measure direct, indirect, and induced impacts for any event
  • Run projected, definite, and post-event reports with one consistent standard
  • Assess the potential economic impact generated by expansions
  • Use a model localized to your destination’s unique visitor traits and economic characteristics

Built for Destinations. Trusted by Over 400 Worldwide.

Every EIC model is developed and maintained by the same expertise behind our forecasting, economic impact, and destination intelligence work. Destinations International administers the platform and its subscriber community, so destination organizations get an industry-backed standard with the rigor of an independent, third-party research firm behind every number.

Tourism Economics helped us move beyond assumptions. When RV content began to show higher-than-normal visit rates, they provided the platform and the tools to trace that increased interest back to real traveler behavior and what content ultimately motivated them.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Event Impact Calculator, and who is it for?

The Event Impact Calculator (EIC) is Destinations International’s tool for measuring the economic value of meetings, sports, festivals, and local events, calculating direct, indirect, and induced impacts on spending, employment, and tax revenue. With more than 500,000 events analyzed, it’s adopted by more than 400 destination organizations worldwide.

Who built and maintains EIC?

A Destinations International tool, our team has partnered with DI for more than ten years on the build and ongoing enhancement of the calculator. We develop the underlying economic models; Destinations International owns the platform and its subscriber community.

What can EIC measure?

In addition to estimating event-driven spending by category from attendees, organizers, and other event participants, the EIC measures broader direct, indirect, and induced impacts, including jobs, incomes, tax revenues by category, as well as visitor stay metrics such as lodging demand.

Should I use EIC or explore a bespoke impact report?

EIC is best for destinations that need a consistent way to estimate and compare the impact of individual events. A bespoke economic impact study is better suited for larger or more complex questions, such as a major event portfolio, venue investment, policy decision, multi-year strategy, or analysis that requires custom methodology, deeper narrative, or broader stakeholder reporting.

How do I access the EIC and what does it cost?

EIC is available through Destinations International. Pricing and access are managed by DI and vary by module and organization type. Visit Destinations International’s website for current details

How do I access the EIC and what does it cost? How is EIC different from Tourism Economics’ other tools, like Symphony, WIC, or MIC?

EIC measures the economic impact of events. Symphony, WIC, and MIC support broader destination intelligence and marketing performance measurement. Many destinations use EIC alongside other Tourism Economics tools to understand event impact as part of a wider, integrated performance picture.
